Adriana Allen, LaGuardia alum & current Hunter College student, will share her studying abroad experience at 明 治 学 院 大 学 (Meijigakuin University) in Japan in early this year and how the Gilman Scholarship helped fund her trip. Adriana will talk about her academic and cultural experience, highlighting the opportunity to live and experience what she had studied in class- rooms. The Gilman scholarship, which funds up to $5,000 for the Pell recipient’s study abroad trip, was a key step for making her study abroad possible. Be- fore the talk, we will make kakigori (Japanese shaved ice) with strawberry, melon, and lemon syrups. We will also have Japanese-style toppings such as rennyu (condensed milk), anko (sweet red bean), and kinako (soybean powder).
