The Office of the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ED DEI) was created by President Adams in the Fall of 2021. The ED is responsible for guiding the College’s efforts in building and maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment, in which all persons who work, learn, or conduct business at LaGuardia are respected and valued.

Among the ED’s responsibilities are centralizing all DEI programming, providing and coordinating college-wide education and training around key DEI and anti-racist concepts; guiding college leaders on DEI issues; reviewing and revising college policies to ensure equity and inclusion; and leading the College’s efforts to develop a social equity plan.

This intern will report to the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Working 15-20 hours per week, the intern will fulfill:

Key Responsibilities:

  • This intern provide support to the ED DEI with administrative tasks, and community outreach and engagement to advance our DEI work
  • Assist ED with researching information for monthly Did You Know…?? emails
  • Collaborate with the ED to prepare meeting agendas and goal setting for our DEI Leadership Team, DEI Council, and other DEI related meetings
  • Collaborate with affinity groups and departments to plan and implement DEI programming and events
  • Assist with creating and posting social media content for related DEI topics
  • Collaborate with the ED to develop and manage content for the DEI website
  • Assist in developing and planning our social equity plan (SEP)

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Must have earned at least 12 credits; Minimum GPA: 2.0
  • Knowledge of, interest in, and commitment to advancing social equity/justice, and creating diverse, equitable, and inclusive communities and workplaces
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication; confidence in communicating with people at all levels; confidence in public speaking and presentations
  • Strong computer & internet skills, including virtual platforms
  • Strong knowledge in social media navigation

Pay

  • $15.61/hour for up to 20 hours per week
