A mother of a young child with COVID-19 chose to end her own life for the fear of having spread the virus at her child’s elementary school. She left a note “I’m so sorry to have caused trouble.”

In Japan, various life challenges (such as getting COVID-19) are still considered as individuals’ responsibilities with little societal support. It is still a persistent view in Japan that getting COVID-19 is due to his or her own karma (immoral actions in their previous life).
