The next Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in the U.S. will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024, during Thanksgiving week. Registration opens on Monday, August 5, 2024, on a staggered schedule by region and level. The deadline for registration is 9/18/2024, but most testing sites will be full before the registration deadline. The JLPT is offered in the U.S. only once a year in December.
The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is the most famous Japanese proficiency test and it is a great opportunity to prove your Japaense language skill. If you are in the Japanese Option or have taken several Japanese courses, please consider taking this proficiency test. Most students who have completed the first two years of the Japanese language classes are ready for N5 (and N4 with a little bit of self-study). In the past, some highly-motivated students have passed higher-level tests such as N2 (see https://youtu.be/lbG8jswB1Kk?si=m1RFP5dxgaLQFL5m).
Note that the NY test site (Lehman College) is very popular and it gets filled very quickly once the registration is open. If you cannot secure the NY test site, you will have to travel to PA or DC in order to take the JLPT test. See the list of the test sites at https://www.aatj.org/jlpt-us.
The test will be administered Sunday, December 1, 2024. The test fee is $100. See the links below for more information.
