In Japan, it is a very popular family tradition to eat KFC together at Christmas. You see Colonel Sanders dressed as Santa on TV and on the street (all KFC stores have the life-size Colonel Sanders statue). It’s still true that quite a few Japanese believe that this custom has been adopted from the U.S.
CNN has a story about this unique Japan-made American tradition.
“A typical KFC Christmas ad … have showcased a family enjoying a luscious feast of golden, fried chicken as the song “My Old Kentucky Home” played in the background.”
Here is this year’s KFC TV commercial.
