The U.S. effort to reconcile between Japan and Korea failed despite the intervention by the second highest ranked U.S. diplomat. Japan and South Korea have been trying to improve their relationship in the last few years, but their diplomatic and economic relationships continue to be weakened. I only know when all Japanese people watched K-drama and sang K-pop in the late 2000’s and the early 2010’s and it’s hard to imagine how the two countries ended up in the current state.
