Learning more about the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Program

Many students in the Japanese Option are interested in the JET Program, a teaching exchange program managed by the Japanese government. Since the JET Program requires a Bachelor’s degree, the first step for those interested in the JET is to transfer to a 4-year institution, but it is a good idea to start your research while you are at LaGuardia.

The JET Program is coordinated by the multiple Japanese government bodies (the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC)) and it is somewhat difficult to know where to start.

For those who are transferring to a 4-year institution in New York State, the contact person for the JET Program is the Consulate General of Japan in New York (総領事館).

For the overall program information, I highly recommend watching the following YouTube videos by the JET Program USA.

A recording of a JET Programme Information Session at University of Calgary (on September 28, 2020) is also avaialble online (You should also be able to find the local inforamtion sessions in NYC at https://jetprogramusa.org/events/)

Finally, many current and former JET teachers are creating YouTube videos with a hashtag #jetprogramme.
